2011 Journey Red
90 Points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar.
2011 was a colder growing season. Our main source of grapes sits 1800 feet above sea level, consequently above the fog line. This allows for early exposure to sunlight and early sugar accumulation. As cold as 2011 was, the block used for this Journey blend matured perfectly, retaining acidity and achieving great black fruit flavors. At fermentation, the block achieved great extraction, color and a finesse that is expressed on the nose and in the long finish.
Tasting notes: Profuse aromas of wild blackberries, black figs, black cherry, hint of black licorice, graphite. Intriguing aromas of juniper cones, black cardamom, and mountain scrub.
Mouth: Wild blackberry jam, dry blueberries, ripe black plums, black cardamom, juniper cones, and semi-sweet cocoa, dry tobacco leaves. Fine grain tannins, Elegant structure, velvety, lush with impeccable finish and stunning elegance. Gorgeous acidity.
